Biography
Macaco Bong is a renowned Brazilian instrumental rock band formed in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, in 2004 by the initiative of guitarist, composer, and producer Bruno Kayapy. Initially structured as a quartet, the group solidified in 2005 as a power trio, standing out on the national independent scene for its energetic and inventive sound that won over specialized critics through innovative releases on the internet.
Throughout its trajectory, the group expanded its discography with highly acclaimed works, such as the album This Is Rolê, released in 2012, which featured the collaboration of pianist and arranger Túlio Mourão, a former member of Os Mutantes. The band also stood out with authentic records like Macumba Afrocimética and the acclaimed 2016 self-titled album, in addition to daring reinterpretations like Deixa Quieto, an instrumental cover of Nirvana's classic album.
Macaco Bong's projection in the musical scene earned important recognitions from cultural critics, including highlights in Rolling Stone Brasil magazine and widely circulated publications. Bruno Kayapy's creative leadership at the helm of the group consolidated his name among the country's great instrumentalists, projecting the strength of instrumental rock from northern Mato Grosso beyond regional borders.
