Madalena Salles is a prominent Brazilian flutist, composer, and arranger, widely recognized for her enduring artistic partnership with singer-songwriter Oswaldo Montenegro. Born in Rio de Janeiro on March 27, 1957, Salles began her musical journey at a young age, studying piano and music theory at seven. By fourteen, she had discovered her passion for the transverse flute, an instrument that would become her signature. Her early musical education was influenced by classical composers like Bach, Vivaldi, and Mozart, as well as Brazilian popular music icons such as Noel Rosa and Chico Buarque.

Salles's career took a significant turn when she met Oswaldo Montenegro at 17. This encounter marked the beginning of a professional collaboration that has spanned over five decades, making her an integral part of his musical and theatrical productions. Beyond her instrumental prowess, Salles has also contributed as an arranger, notably on Montenegro's albums, including "Oswaldo Montenegro" (1990), where she is credited with arrangements for several tracks like "Coração de Todo Mundo" and "Travessuras." Her involvement extends to musical theater, where she has served as an assistant director, contributing to productions like "Veja Você, Brasília."

Her musical style is a rich blend of classical training and a deep appreciation for Brazilian popular music. While rooted in classical music, Salles has embraced the versatility of popular music, theater, dance, and cinema through her work with Montenegro. She has also ventured into literature, publishing the book "Deinha, a árvore do amor," a biographical work about Oswaldo Montenegro's grandmother.
