Biography
Founded in 1967 in the Pompeia neighborhood of São Paulo by brothers Oswaldo Vecchione and Celso Vecchione, the band Made in Brazil is one of the longest-lasting and most important acts in Brazilian rock. The group gained prominence in the 1970s by blending a heavy sound with striking theatrical performances, pioneering the use of artistic makeup on Brazilian stages starting in 1969. Throughout its trajectory, the ensemble accumulated a world record for line-ups, featuring the passage of more than a hundred musicians, and released emblematic works such as the 1974 self-titled debut album, popularly known as the "banana album", and the 1978 classic Pauliceia Desvairada.
The band faced severe repression during the period of the military dictatorship, culminating in the total censorship of the album Massacre, recorded in 1977 and released decades later, as well as the shutdown of their debut show at the Teatro Aquários. Even in the face of political adversities and the loss of historic members, such as the passing of guitarist Celso Vecchione in 2023, the group remained active under the leadership of Oswaldo Vecchione. The band's relevance in the Brazilian rock scene yielded large-scale celebrations, such as the "Viva Made in Brazil" exhibition in 2017 at the Centro Cultural São Paulo, celebrating half a century of history alongside fundamental names in national rock such as João Gordo and Serguei.
