Biography

Marcela Vale, nationally known as Mahmundi, was born in Rio de Janeiro and built her path in music by mixing elements of electronic music, indie pop, and 1980s references. Before consolidating her solo career, she was the vocalist and guitarist for the band Velho Irlandês, and also worked as an audio engineer at the traditional Circo Voador. In 2012, she brought the Mahmundi project to life alongside musicians like Lucas de Paiva and Felipe Vellozo, independently releasing the EP Efeito das Cores and, later, the work Setembro.

With a sound marked by synthesizers, guitars, and reflective poetry, the artist gained national projection by winning the Prêmio Multishow de Música Brasileira in the New Song category with the single Sentimento. Over the years, her discography expanded with acclaimed albums such as Para Dias Ruins — which earned her a Latin Grammy nomination — and the record Amor Fati, chosen by the São Paulo Association of Art Critics among the best national releases. Her sound and poetry are often compared by critics to the great Marina Lima and the legendary Rita Lee.

Coming from an evangelical family in the suburbs of Rio, Marcela began her music production in internet cafés and on borrowed computers before achieving critical acclaim and signing with major record labels. Today, artistic consolidation and maturity define her work, which gracefully moves between the nostalgia of synthesizers and the modernity of Brazilian pop music. In her compositions, she echoes influences ranging from urban experience to the rich tapestry of Brazilian popular music.
