Biography

Maíra Freitas is a Brazilian singer, pianist, arranger, and composer, born in Rio de Janeiro on September 9, 1985. The daughter of renowned singer and songwriter Martinho da Vila and sister of fellow singer Mart'nália, Maíra had her first contact with music through the piano at the age of seven, studying at the Pró-Arte Music School. Her musical education deepened at the Brazilian Conservatory of Music and, later, at the UFRJ School of Music, where she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Piano. Her music career gained prominence in 2010 when she participated in her father's CD "Poetas da Cidade", interpreting the song "Último desejo". Since then, she has performed in shows alongside Martinho da Vila and Mart'nália, in addition to developing her solo career.

Maíra Freitas released her first self-titled album, "Maíra Freitas", in 2011, produced by her sister Mart'nália. The record presented a fusion of her classical training with influences from samba and MPB, exploring both original compositions and reinterpretations of great names in Brazilian music such as Chico Buarque and Gonzaguinha. In 2015, she released "Piano e Batucada", a work that consolidated her musical identity and deepened her exploration of Brazilian rhythms with sophisticated arrangements. In 2023, she released the album "Ayé òrun", in partnership with the female collective Jazz das Minas, an original project conceived from motherhood and which celebrates female strength in music.

The artist moves fluidly between classical and popular music, demonstrating versatility in her performances as a pianist, singer, and composer. Her work is marked by technical quality and sensitivity in her interpretations, always dialoguing with the rich traditions of Brazilian music. Maíra Freitas is recognized for her authenticity and for bringing a contemporary perspective to MPB, remaining faithful to her musical roots.
