Biography
Majur dos Santos Conceição, known mononymously as Majur, is a Brazilian singer-songwriter born on October 21, 1995, in Salvador, Bahia. She is recognized for her unique blend of R&B, MPB, and Afrobeat, often described as a "new voice of Bahia music." Majur's musical journey began at the age of five, singing in church and later in the choir of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Salvador.
Her career gained momentum after being discovered by Caetano Veloso, and she has since collaborated with prominent Brazilian artists such as Emicida, Pablo Vittar, Liniker, Luedji Luna, and Ivete Sangalo. Majur's music often explores themes of romantic relationships, female empowerment, and her own journey of self-discovery, reinforcing messages of diversity and Black affection. Her debut album, "Ojunifé" (2021), which means "eyes of love" in Yoruba, is an Afropop album featuring indigenous and African influences. She has also released "ARRISCA" (2023) and "Gira Mundo" (2025), further showcasing her musical versatility.
Beyond her music, Majur is a significant figure for representation, being one of the first openly transgender artists to gain widespread recognition in Brazil. She has been a vocal advocate for the LGBTQIAP+ community and uses her platform to promote inclusivity and challenge societal norms. Majur's artistic expression extends to her visual identity, which she considers a political act, celebrating her Black and queer identity.
