Biography

Manoel Cordeiro is a celebrated Brazilian multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, and producer, widely recognized as a master of guitarrada and Amazonian music. Born in Ponta de Pedras in 1955, he is largely self-taught and began his musical journey at the age of 12, influenced by his mother who played the cavaquinho. Over the decades, he has contributed to approximately one thousand albums, cementing his legacy in northern Brazilian rhythms such as lambada, carimbó, and cumbia.

Although he worked at Banco do Brasil for a decade, Cordeiro never truly left music behind, returning to the studios and eventually forming backing bands for various artists like Alípio Martins. In the late 2000s, he teamed up with his son, the musician and composer Felipe Cordeiro, returning to the live stage and collaborating on notable projects, including albums for prominent regional artists like Fafá de Belém.

In 2014, he released his debut solo album, "Sonora Amazônia," which showcased his extensive career through an instrumental exploration of Amazonian dance music. His work has profoundly shaped the genre known as guitarrada, which traces its roots back to pioneers like Mestre Vieira. Cordeiro continues to be a vital pillar of Pará's rich musical tradition.
