Biography

Maestro Manoel Ferreira was an accomplished Brazilian conductor, composer, and arranger born in Iguatu, Ceará. He began his musical education under the guidance of local maestro Francisco Pereira Lima before moving to Fortaleza to study with Mozart Brandão at Ceará Rádio Clube. His dedication to music led him to serve as the principal conductor of the Military Police Band of Ceará, where he achieved the rank of sub-lieutenant conductor.

Throughout his career, he refined his skills through advanced studies in harmony and conducting with Hans-Joachim Koellreutter at the Alberto Nepomuceno Conservatory of Music. His talent as an orchestral arranger brought him international recognition, including notable tours across the United States and several European countries alongside youth bands such as the Padre João Piamarta educational center ensemble, collaborating with figures like maestro Costa Holanda.

As a composer, his prolific output was celebrated nationally, with his piece Diana no Frevo becoming a staple in the Golden Repertoire of Brazilian Concert Bands through FUNARTE. His legacy is permanently honored through the naming of musical institutions, such as the Municipal Band of Iguatu and the Military Fire Department's concert band. His contributions profoundly impacted the development of wind bands in Ceará and across Brazil, aligning his artistic path with traditional instrumental and orchestral movements.
