Biography

Louis Marcel Powell de Aquino, known as Marcel Powell, was born in Paris, France, on March 30, 1982. He is a Brazilian guitarist, the son of the legendary Brazilian guitarist and composer Baden Powell and brother of pianist Philippe Baden Powell. Powell began playing guitar at the age of nine and appeared on two of his father's albums, "Baden Powell and Children" and "Afro-Brazilian Suite." He also studied violin for five years, but ultimately chose the guitar, blending classical precision with the expressive freedom of Brazilian rhythms.

Powell has forged his own path in music, releasing numerous albums as a composer and guitarist. His discography includes "Só Baden" (2016), a tribute to his father, and "Horizon" (2024), which showcases his artistic universe, drawing from Brazilian music, jazz, and classical traditions. He has collaborated with various renowned artists, including Diogo Nogueira, Claudia Telles, and Hamilton de Holanda, and has performed internationally in Europe, Japan, and South America.

Recognized for his virtuosity and unique style, Marcel Powell is considered a significant figure in contemporary Brazilian music. His work often pays homage to his father's legacy while exploring new musical territories. He has been praised by critics, such as Tárık de Souza, who called him a "young master of the Brazilian guitar." Powell continues to captivate audiences with his performances and recordings, carrying forward the rich musical heritage of his family.
