Biography

Marcelo Costa is a renowned Brazilian drummer and percussionist, born on November 11, 1959, in Rio de Janeiro. His musical career began early, at age 14, when he became a founding member of the iconic band A Barca do Sol, with which he recorded three albums. At 16, he made his first professional recording on Edu Lobo's album "Limite das Águas".

Starting in the 1980s, following the end of A Barca do Sol, Marcelo Costa established himself as one of the most sought-after musicians in Brazilian popular music (MPB). His versatility and talent led him to collaborate on recordings and shows with a wide range of renowned artists, including Caetano Veloso (with whom he recorded 11 CDs and performed 7 national and international tours), Lulu Santos, Adriana Calcanhotto, Maria Bethânia, Marisa Monte, Gal Costa, Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil, Mart'nália, Maria Gadú, Roberta Sá, Zeca Baleiro, Boca Livre, Bala Desejo, and Ana Frango Elétrico, among many others.

In addition to his work as an instrumentalist, Marcelo Costa has also stood out in music production, collaborating on albums by artists such as Mariana de Moraes, Jussara Silveira, Illy, and Nina Wirtti. His musical influence extends to collaborations with international artists like Jorge Drexler, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Norah Jones, Lee Ritenour, and Dave Grusin. In 2019, he celebrated his more than four-decade career with the release of the album "Marcelo Costa Vol. 1", a project that brings together recordings made between 1994 and 1999 and features the participation of various friends and musical partners.
