Biography

Marcelo Lobato is a Brazilian musician, composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, born in Rio de Janeiro on May 4, 1965. Known for his versatility and sonic experimentation, Lobato has built a remarkable career in Brazilian music, leaving his mark as an instrumentalist, composer, and producer. His journey includes stints in iconic bands and solo projects that explore the fusion of diverse musical genres.

His musical career began in his teens, and in the 90s, he became a founding member and keyboardist of the band O Rappa, contributing significantly to the group's innovative sound, which mixed reggae, rock, hip-hop, and electronic elements. Following the departure of drummer Marcelo Yuka, Lobato took over the drums, demonstrating his adaptability and talent. In addition to O Rappa, he is also a co-founder of the band Afrika Gumbe, known for its Afro-Cuban and African influences.

In his solo career, Marcelo Lobato has explored new sonic possibilities, releasing EPs and singles that reflect his artistic identity and his ability to transform deep reflections into engaging musical experiences. His solo work, initiated during the pandemic, is marked by experimentation with timbres, arrangements, and the combination of different influences, such as bossa nova, reggae, Latin, and African music.
