Biography

Marcelo Martins is a renowned Brazilian saxophonist, flutist, arranger, and composer, born in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, on February 23, 1969. His musical career began early, at eight years of age, when he started studying flute in the Instituto Abel Orchestra. Throughout his education, he deepened his knowledge in music theory at the Music Conservatory of the State of Rio de Janeiro and in harmony and improvisation with renowned teachers, in addition to studying for a Bachelor's Degree in Music at UFRJ.

Throughout his career, Marcelo Martins has established himself as one of the most sought-after musicians in Brazilian music, having collaborated on hundreds of recordings and shows with major names of MPB. His versatility has led him to work with artists such as Djavan, Ivan Lins, João Bosco, Gilberto Gil, Maria Bethânia, Gal Costa, Caetano Veloso, Lulu Santos, Roberto Carlos, and Nando Reis, among many others. His skill as an instrumentalist and arranger has enriched countless albums and performances, demonstrating his deep connection to the country's musical diversity.

In 2013, he released his debut solo album, "Do Outro Lado", which was critically acclaimed and chosen as one of the best records of the year. Currently, in addition to his solo career, Marcelo Martins is a co-founder and member of Orquestra Atlântica, where he acts as an arranger, composer, and saxophonist. His participation in celebratory tours by major artists, such as Flávio Venturini, Ivan Lins, and Maria Bethânia, and his future collaboration on Djavan's tour, reaffirm his status as one of the pillars of Brazilian instrumental and popular music.
