Biography
Marcelo Mimoso is a Brazilian singer and musician, born in Rio de Janeiro in 1982, who has carved a significant niche in the contemporary forró scene. Despite his carioca birthplace, he identifies as "parioca," a blend of Paraibano and carioca, reflecting his family's roots in Remígio, Paraíba. His musical journey began early, accompanying his father, Fidélis do Acordeon, a renowned accordionist, to forró shows across Brazil. This early exposure to regional music, along with his close relationship with the folkloric singer Manhoso, deeply influenced his artistic development.
Mimoso's career gained momentum in the early 2000s when he joined the forró band Trio Balanço Bom, initially as a triangle player and vocalist. He later took on leadership roles in other groups, including Os Cabras and Forró do Mercado, further honing his skills as a performer and interpreter. His musical inspirations include giants of forró such as Luiz Gonzaga, Jackson do Pandeiro, Trio Nordestino, and Dominguinhos. He is known for his powerful voice and emotional delivery, often performing in the traditional "trio" format of accordion, zabumba, and triangle, as well as with a full band.
Beyond his music career, Marcelo Mimoso has also explored acting, notably portraying Luiz Gonzaga in the acclaimed musical "Gonzagão, A Lenda." This role earned him an award nomination at the Prêmio Bibi Ferreira in 2014. He has shared the stage with numerous prominent Brazilian artists, including Gilberto Gil, Lenine, and Elba Ramalho, and has performed internationally, including in Europe. Mimoso's work continues to be celebrated, with recent releases and performances solidifying his position as a key figure in Brazilian forró music.
