Biography

Marcos Amorim is a renowned Brazilian guitarist, acoustic guitarist, arranger, and composer, born in Rio de Janeiro on September 2, 1964. The son of pianist Nelson Amorim and nephew of bassist and composer Renato Amorim, he grew up in a musically rich environment, which inspired him from an early age to pursue a career in the arts.

His musical training includes studies with figures such as Hélio Delmiro, Isidoro Kutno, and Célia Vaz. Throughout his career, Amorim has collaborated with a vast array of renowned artists in Brazilian music, such as Tomás Improta, Belô Velloso, Daúde, Eduardo Dusek, Baby do Brasil, Tânia Alves, Zezé Motta, and Barrosinho, with whom he performed at the renowned Platinum Festival in Montreux, Switzerland, in 1988.

Marcos Amorim has a notable solo discography, featuring albums such as "O Boto" (1993), acclaimed as Instrumental CD of the Year by the newspaper "O Globo", "Luz da Lua" (1996), "Cris on the Farm" (2003), released in the United States and awarded by "Downbeat" magazine, "Sete Capelas" (2007), "Revolving Landscapes" (2008), and "Portraits" (2010). His music is characterized by a fusion of Rio de Janeiro rhythms with influences from jazz and Brazilian instrumental music, resulting in a sophisticated and engaging sound.
