Biography

Marcos Antônio Ramos da Hora, widely known as O Negrão Abençoado, is a prominent Brazilian gospel singer, songwriter, and politician born in São Lourenço da Mata. Growing up in a musical family, he learned to play instruments and compose songs at a very young age before experiencing a radical life transformation and converting to Christianity in 1985 under the guidance of Pastor Hidekazu Takayama. His early entry into the recording industry marked a significant milestone when he signed with Barclay Discos, a subsidiary of Polygram do Brasil, to release his debut gospel album, "Um Grande Evento".

Throughout his career spanning nearly two decades, Marcos Antônio became a major reference point within the Brazilian gospel music scene, captivating audiences with well-known spiritual anthems such as "Pai", "Toma os Pedaços", "Te Peço Perdão", "Quase Morri", and "Fui no Mundo". His distinctive vocal delivery and heartfelt compositions established him as one of the leading voices of his genre during an era of significant growth for evangelical music in Brazil. Alongside musical contemporaries like Silas Malafaia, he has frequently navigated the intersections of religious influence, public visibility, and cultural commentary.

He successfully ran for public office, being elected as a federal deputy for the state of Pernambuco in the 2006 elections.
