Biography

Marcos Souza is a Brazilian composer, pianist, music supervisor, and producer known for his extensive work in film and television soundtracks. He is the son of composer Chico Mário and nephew of the renowned cartoonist Henfil and sociologist Betinho. Souza's career spans various facets of the music industry, including composing original scores, music supervision, and producing cultural events. He has been recognized with awards such as "Best Soundtrack for TV" and "Best Music Supervisor" at the Prêmio Profissionais da Música.

Souza's musical journey began with a strong foundation, influenced by his musical family. He pursued his passion by studying piano and contemporary dance at Codarts in Rotterdam. His career has seen him work on numerous film and television projects, contributing significantly to the Brazilian audiovisual landscape. He has composed scores for films like "Betinho – Uma Esperança Equilibrista," "Henfil," and "Angel Vianna – Voando com os pés no Chão," among others. Beyond his work as a composer, Souza has also been involved in music production and cultural management, serving in roles such as Director of the Music Center at Funarte and Director of the Musimagem Festival in Brazil.

His international experience includes producing projects in the Netherlands and advising on Brazilian films at festivals. Souza's versatility is evident in his diverse projects, which range from soundtracks for films and plays to producing "roda de choro" gatherings, showcasing his deep connection to Brazilian musical traditions like choro. He has also released albums such as "Dance Improvisation" and "Winds of Amsterdam," reflecting his engagement with contemporary dance and instrumental music.
