Biography

Maria Creuza Silva Lima was born in Esplanada, Bahia, on February 26, 1944. Moving to Salvador at a very young age, she began her artistic career during her adolescence by joining the vocal group Les Girls, which eventually led to her hosting radio shows and starring in her own television program, "Encontro com Maria Creuza," on TV Itapoan during the 1960s. Her talent soon caught national attention, leading her to participate in major music festivals and collaborate with prominent figures in Brazilian popular music.

In June 1970, she embarked on a landmark musical excursion to Buenos Aires alongside the legendary Vinícius de Moraes and Toquinho. Performing at the renowned venue La Fusa, the trio recorded the iconic live album "En La Fusa con Maria Creuza y Toquinho," a release that cemented her international reputation and defined her association with the sophisticated sounds of bossa nova and samba. Decades later, she continued to celebrate this legacy, reuniting with Toquinho for celebratory anniversary tours that crossed South America and earned them official honors.

Throughout her extensive career, Maria Creuza released numerous celebrated albums, working alongside influential artists such as Francis Hime and exploring the rich traditions of samba and bossa nova. Her distinct vocal delivery and emotive interpretations have made her a cherished ambassador of Brazilian music worldwide. She remains widely celebrated for her timeless recordings and enduring contributions to the genre.
