Biography

Maria Eugênia is a Brazilian singer and pianist, born in Goiânia, Goiás, on June 20, 1967. With a classical background, she graduated in piano in 1990 and began her popular music career in 1986, participating in festivals and television shows. Her debut album, "Maria Eugênia," released in 1992, earned her the Prêmio Tiokô de Música in Goiânia and initiated a national tour.

Her second album, "Dois Gumes," was recorded with support from the Rouanet Law. In 1997, she performed with pianist Márvio Ciribelli in Rio de Janeiro for a Canadian TV series. Eugênia also recorded the live album "Noites Goianas" with four other Goianian musicians for Televisão Anhanguera. She has performed internationally, including shows in Lisbon during Expo 98, Barcelona, and across South America with the Grupo Solo Brasil, which resulted in the 2002 album "Uma Viagem Através da Música."

Known as "A Voz de Goiás" (The Voice of Goiás), a title given by Rede Globo director Marcos Schechtman, Maria Eugênia has had her songs featured in Globo telenovelas, including "Companheiro" which was the theme song for "Araguaia." She has released several albums, showcasing MPB and regional songs that celebrate Goiás. In 2022 and 2023, she conducted the "Projeto Educanto," reaching over 17,000 students in 24 cities in the interior of Goiás.
