Biography

Maria Gadú, stage name of Mayra Corrêa, was born in São Paulo on December 4, 1986. Since childhood, she showed a strong inclination for music, recording cassette tapes at age seven and composing songs on the acoustic guitar after brief lessons. Before achieving national prominence, she began her artistic career performing in bars and family parties in the capital of São Paulo, initially adopting the name Maria Aygadoux and later moving to Rio de Janeiro in 2008 to consolidate her career in the music scene of the South Zone and Barra da Tijuca.

National recognition came quickly when she caught the attention of major MPB names, such as Caetano Veloso, Milton Nascimento, and João Donato. In 2009, she released her self-titled debut album, landing hits like "Shimbalaiê" — composed by herself when she was only ten years old — on the soundtracks of Rede Globo television productions. Throughout her career, Gadú has accumulated Latin Grammy nominations and collaborated with several renowned artists, consolidating high-profile partnerships, such as the tour and DVD recorded together with Caetano Veloso.

In addition to her work as a singer and songwriter, Maria Gadú expanded her artistic activity to acclaimed studio albums such as "Mais Uma Página" (2011) and "Guelã" (2015), as well as projects focused on the appreciation of musical roots and indigenous ancestry, such as the single "Mundo Líquido" (2019). Remaining active in the Brazilian popular music scene, the artist easily transitions between MPB, pop, and samba, participating in commemorative tours and international tours that reinforce her relevance in the contemporary music scene.
