Biography

Born in Rio de Janeiro and spending part of her childhood in Washington, United States, Marina Lima is a central figure in the modernization of Brazilian popular music. She began her artistic journey in 1977, gaining prominence after the singer Gal Costa recorded her composition "Meu Doce Amor". Her career is deeply marked by the partnership with her brother, the poet Antônio Cícero, with whom she built a repertoire that united the sophistication of MPB with the energy of the pop rock that would dominate Brazilian radios in the 1980s.

During the 1980s, Marina established herself as one of the country's most played artists through emblematic albums such as Fullgás and Virgem. Her unique sound, characterized by her husky voice and influences ranging from soul to national rock, generated timeless hits like "Uma Noite e 1/2", "Veneno", and striking reworkings of works by Lobão and Cazuza. In addition to commercial success, she participated in television and social milestones, such as the Mulher 80 special and the choir of the Nordeste Já project.

After facing a period of depression and vocal cord problems in the 90s, Marina reinvented herself by incorporating elements of electronic music into her work and, more recently, even carioca funk. Her move to São Paulo in 2011 yielded the acclaimed album Clímax and partnerships with musicians such as Samuel Rosa and Mano Brown. With over 40 years on the road, Marina Lima remains active on the stages of major festivals, such as Lollapalooza Brasil, maintaining her relevance by conversing with new generations of Brazilian music, like Pabllo Vittar.
