Biography
Marino e Mairajá was a sertanejo duo formed by Oscar Antônio de Araújo, known as Marino, born in São Gotardo, Minas Gerais, in 1947, and José Cândido, Mairajá, born in Açucena, Minas Gerais, in 1945. The duo consolidated in 1968, after Marino ended his previous partnership with Maringá.
Marino began his musical career in Goiás, where he toured circuses and local radio stations for two years alongside Maringá. In 1962, he moved to Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. It was in the capital of Minas Gerais that he met José Cândido, who at the time was the accordionist for the sertanejo duo Taperinha e Rancho Fundo. The union of Marino and Mairajá marked the beginning of a trajectory in sertanejo music.
Throughout their career, the duo contributed to the Brazilian sertanejo music scene, recording their work on records and performances. Although not as widely documented as other major names in the genre, Marino and Mairajá represent an important segment of Brazilian regional music, with roots deeply planted in the country's interior.
