Marino do Espírito Santo Pinto, known professionally as Marino Pinto, was a prominent Brazilian composer and journalist born on July 18, 1916, in Bom Jardim, Rio de Janeiro. He passed away on January 28, 1965, in Rio de Janeiro, leaving behind a rich legacy in Brazilian popular music.

Pinto began his career in journalism, working for various newspapers before transitioning to music. He started as a lyricist in 1938 and soon after, in 1940, began composing with renowned artists such as Ataulfo Alves and Wilson Batista. His collaborations produced numerous hits that became staples in the repertoire of popular Brazilian singers. He was also a co-founder of SBACEM (Sociedade Brasileira de Autores, Compositores e Escritores de Música) in 1946, actively participating in the defense of artists' rights.

Throughout his career, Marino Pinto penned over 300 songs, many of which achieved significant success and remain classics of the samba-canção and marchinha genres. His notable partnerships included those with Herivelto Martins, Mário Rossi, and even Tom Jobim, showcasing his versatility and ability to connect with different musical styles and personalities within the Brazilian music scene. His work was recorded by iconic artists like Dalva de Oliveira, Elizeth Cardoso, Orlando Silva, João Gilberto, and Maria Bethânia, solidifying his place as a significant figure in Brazilian music history.
