Mário da Silveira Meireles Reis, widely known as Mário Reis, was a prominent Brazilian samba singer who rose to fame during the golden age of radio in Brazil. Born in Rio de Janeiro on December 31, 1907, Reis earned the affectionate nickname "Bacharel do Samba" (Bachelor of Samba) due to his sophisticated style and his law degree. His career, spanning from 1928 to 1971, left an indelible mark on Brazilian popular music.

Reis's musical journey began with guitar lessons from the renowned Sinhô, who recognized his talent and introduced him to the recording industry. He graduated in Law and Social Sciences from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, sharing classes with fellow luminary Ary Barroso. Reis's smooth vocal delivery and agile rhythmic interpretation set him apart, influencing subsequent generations of singers, including João Gilberto, and is considered a precursor to Bossa Nova.

Throughout his career, Mário Reis collaborated with many of Brazil's most celebrated artists, including Carmen Miranda and Francisco Alves, with whom he formed a highly successful duo, recording numerous hits between 1930 and 1932. His unique singing style, characterized by a gentle tone and modern phrasing, made him a beloved figure in Brazilian music. Mário Reis passed away on October 5, 1981, leaving behind a rich legacy that continues to be celebrated.
