Mário Vieira was a Brazilian composer born in Piracicaba, São Paulo, in 1921. He was an active figure in the Brazilian music scene, particularly in the 1950s, contributing to the popularization of genres like baião and cateretê.

Vieira was a member of the group Vagalumes do Luar, with whom he performed and recorded. His compositional career gained significant traction in 1950 when he co-wrote the baião "Sabiá na gaiola" with Hervé Cordovil. This song became a major hit for the singer Carmélia Alves, marking a notable success early in his career. He continued to collaborate with various artists, including Riellinho, Joraci Rago, Elpídio dos Santos, and Geraldo Blota, producing a diverse range of songs that were recorded by prominent Brazilian performers.

Throughout the 1950s, Mário Vieira's work encompassed various Brazilian rhythms. He composed cateretês like "Ingratidão" and "Tô chegando agora," baiões such as "É Pernambuco" and "Boneca japonesa," and also ventured into marches, sambas, and toadas. His collaborations resulted in songs recorded by artists like Aracy de Almeida, Osvaldo Rodrigues, Duo Guarujá, Elsa Laranjeira, Michel Daud, and Germano Matias, solidifying his presence as a composer in the popular music landscape of the era.
