Biography
Marissol Mwaba is a Brazilian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist born in Brasília, known for her unique musical style that blends MPB with alternative pop and Congolese influences. Growing up in a household with academic parents who played in a Congolese band, she was introduced to 1960s and 1970s Congolese music alongside Brazilian pop-rock. She started playing the guitar at age eight alongside her brother François Muleka, developing a distinct compositional voice that bridges Brazilian and African cultural panoramas, particularly from the Katanga province in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Her career gained significant national prominence after she participated in the reality television show The Voice Brasil in 2018 and contributed to major collaborative projects. She has co-written works recorded by acclaimed artists such as Luedji Luna, including the notable track "Notícias de Salvador," and has collaborated in studio and on stage with prominent Brazilian musicians like Emicida, Chico César, Fióti, and Drik Barbosa. In 2016, she released her debut album, Luz-A-zuL, initially launched in Paris during her time studying and performing abroad, which established her presence in both European and Brazilian independent music scenes.
Characterized by her versatility as a vocalist and instrumentalist playing guitar, bass, and drums, Marissol continues to expand her artistic footprint through innovative projects like her tour Lamuka and her conceptual releases. Her contributions to contemporary Brazilian music have earned praise from legendary figures such as Gilberto Gil and peers across the modern MPB and hip-hop landscapes. Today, she remains an important voice in the renewal of Brazilian independent music, weaving her multicultural heritage into her distinctive songwriting.
