Biography

Maritza Fabiani, born Maritza Maciel Teixeira on January 17, 1950, in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, is a Brazilian singer who rose to prominence in the 1960s.

Her artistic journey began at a young age, influenced by her mother, an actress, and her father, a military man. Despite facing challenges, including childhood polio, Fabiani pursued her passion for music. She started her career in television in Curitiba at the age of 10, appearing on "Tia Rosinha" and later hosting her own show, "Petit Show." Her talent for mimesis, particularly of international stars like Rita Pavone, caught the attention of producer Carlos Imperial, leading to her first record deal with Philips.

Fabiani released several successful singles in the 1960s, with "Não me deixe só" (a version of Dusty Springfield's "I Only Want to Be with You") becoming her biggest hit. She later moved to CBS, aligning with the Jovem Guarda movement, and released more singles. In the 1970s, she formed the duo Kris & Cristina with her sister Cristina, achieving success with songs like "Uma rosa com amor," the theme song for the telenovela of the same name. After a successful stint with the duo, Maritza Fabiani eventually stepped away from the music industry to pursue a career in psychology, though she has occasionally performed for friends and family.

Her musical contributions are recognized within Brazilian pop music, particularly her interpretations of international hits adapted for the Brazilian market. She is also the mother of actress Marcella Valente.
