Marlene was one of the most celebrated Brazilian singers and actresses of the 20th century, particularly during the "Golden Age of Radio" in the 1940s and 1950s. Born Victória Bonaiutti de Martino in São Paulo, she rose to national prominence after moving to Rio de Janeiro and joining the prestigious cast of Rádio Nacional. Her career was famously defined by a culturally significant rivalry with fellow singer Emilinha Borba, which divided Brazilian audiences into "Marlenistas" and "Emilinistas" and became a cornerstone of mid-century Brazilian pop culture.\n\nKnown for her dynamic performance style and powerful voice, Marlene earned the title of "Queen of Radio" in 1949, an honor bestowed upon her by the public. Throughout her long career, she recorded a diverse repertoire that spanned from lively carnival marchinhas to sophisticated sambas and even Portuguese fados, reflecting her heritage.
