Biography

Irenice Mendonça Ferreira, artistically known as Marta Mendonça, was born in Uberaba, Minas Gerais, on February 16, 1940. Her musical career gained prominence in the 1960s, driven by the success of the song "Tu Sabes", which earned her awards and great media visibility, including frequent television appearances and tours throughout Brazil. Throughout her career, she recorded an expressive number of songs, totaling 110 tracks on LPs, singles, and special editions.

Marta Mendonça is recognized for her romantic style, with a striking voice that interpreted boleros, ballads, and guaranias, distancing herself from the samba that predominated at the time. In 1965, she decided to take a break from her career to dedicate herself to her personal life, marrying fellow singer Altemar Dutra. From this union, two children were born: Deusa Dutra and Altemar Dutra Júnior, who also pursued a musical career.

Despite having stepped away from the spotlight to dedicate herself to her family, Marta Mendonça left a legacy of romantic songs that defined an era. Her discography includes albums such as "Marta Mendonça Maravilhosa" (1961), "Junto de Ti" (1963), "Kimi Koishi" (1964), "Martha Mendonça" (1968), and "Dentro da Noite" (1971). She also interpreted compositions by renowned Brazilian artists, such as Chico Buarque and Dolores Duran.
