Biography

Mateus Asato is a renowned Brazilian guitarist and composer born in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul. His musical journey began at a young age within the church, heavily influenced by his family and the local church community where he honed his skills on acoustic guitar before rising to prominence. After winning a national guitar competition in 2010, he moved to Los Angeles to study at the Musicians Institute, where he graduated and earned the title of Best Guitarist of the institute.

Throughout his career, Asato has established himself as a prominent session and touring musician, performing with high-profile international and Brazilian acts such as Luan Santana, Tiago Iorc, Sandy, Di Ferrero, and Fresno, as well as global pop stars like Bruno Mars, Jessie J, and Tori Kelly. His innovative style and technical prowess have earned him praise from legendary guitarists and artists worldwide, including John Mayer, Kiko Loureiro, and Nuno Bettencourt. In 2018, he signed with Sony Music Entertainment Japan to begin recording his debut album.

Despite his immense success and massive social media following, Asato has navigated challenges related to burnout and creative fatigue, notably taking a hiatus from social media and music-making in 2021 to realign his passion. Beyond his guitar work, he draws inspiration from figures like Juninho Afram and has collaborated with a diverse array of artists across different genres, cementing his status as one of the most influential contemporary instrumentalists of his generation.
