Biography

Anísio Roberto de Carvalho, known artistically as Mathias, was born in Uberlândia, Minas Gerais, on February 14, 1945. Before dedicating himself to music, he worked in construction as a bricklayer. His musical career gained prominence in the 1970s, when he moved to São Paulo and met the singer and songwriter Matogrosso. Together, they formed the iconic duo Matogrosso & Mathias, which became established as "Brazil's most romantic duo."

With Matogrosso, Mathias landed several hits that marked an era in romantic sertanejo music, such as "Pele de maçã", "Tentei te esquecer", "Idas e voltas", "Memórias", "24 horas de amor", "Frente a frente", "Sábado", "De igual pra igual" and "Pedaço de minha vida". The duo achieved great popularity, earning gold records and paving the way for many other artists of the genre.

Throughout his career, Mathias participated in other formations, such as the duo with Milionário in 1993, and later with Marco Aurélio and Matão. However, the partnership with Matogrosso remained the main hallmark of his career, and he is recognized for his unique voice and unmistakable style in Brazilian sertanejo music.
