Matogrosso & Mathias is a Brazilian sertanejo duo formed in 1976, originally by João Batista Bernardo (Matogrosso) and Anísio Roberto de Carvalho (Mathias). They are widely recognized as pioneers of romantic sertanejo music, a subgenre that brought a more emotional and introspective style to Brazilian country music. The duo's music often features heartfelt lyrics and melodic arrangements, which resonated deeply with audiences and influenced generations of artists.

Their career gained significant national recognition in the 1980s with hits like "Tentei Te Esquecer" (I Tried to Forget You), "De Igual Pra Igual" (On Equal Footing), and "Pedaço de Minha Vida" (Piece of My Life). A particularly iconic song, "Boate Azul" (Blue Nightclub), released in 1985, has become a timeless classic, frequently covered by other artists and cementing their status in Brazilian music history. Matogrosso & Mathias played a crucial role in popularizing sertanejo music on FM radio stations, which were then dominated by urban genres, thus paving the way for modern sertanejo.

Over their extensive career, the duo has experienced lineup changes. In 1991, the original Mathias departed, and various singers took on the role, including Isaac Júnior and, more recently, Rafael Belchior.
