Biography

Mattos Nascimento, born Matusael do Nascimento in Rio de Janeiro on June 2, 1954, is a prominent Brazilian gospel singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. During the 1980s, he worked as a freelance instrumentalist for various secular bands, notably contributing to albums by Os Paralamas do Sucesso, where he played brass and provided vocals on records like Bora-Bora and Big Bang.

After dedicating his life back to the church, he became a pioneer of his family in Christian music and shifted his focus exclusively to a prolific solo career, releasing over seventy-five albums. Throughout his extensive discography, he has collaborated with notable Christian artists such as Shirley Carvalhaes, Raiz Coral, and J. Neto, cementing his influential status within the Brazilian gospel music scene.

In addition to his musical ministry, Mattos Nascimento ventured into politics, serving as a federal deputy for Rio de Janeiro from 1999 to 2003 after being elected in 1998, and later running for the Senate in 2018. Today, he remains active in his calling, traveling to perform in churches, municipal events, and gospel concerts while continually releasing new music across digital platforms.
