Biography
Matheus Brasileiro Aguiar, known artistically as Matuê, was born in Fortaleza, Ceará, and spent part of his childhood in California, an experience that gave him fluency in English. Back in Brazil, he worked as a salesperson and English teacher before gathering resources to begin his musical journey, initially releasing a reggae mixtape in 2015 through the record label 30PRAUM. He quickly migrated to trap, a genre in which he established himself as one of the country's biggest names after standing out with the single "RBN" and the resounding success of hits like "Kenny G".
In 2020, the artist released his acclaimed debut album, "Máquina do Tempo", which broke historical streaming records on Spotify Brazil and became the first record in the genre to surpass the one billion streams mark on the platform. In addition to his commercial impact, Matuê accumulated expressive milestones, such as being the only hip-hop artist in 2023 with ten songs exceeding 100 million plays. Further consolidating his leading position in the genre, he released his second studio album in 2024, "333", which achieved the biggest debut in the history of Spotify Brazil and appeared at the top of the global ranking.
Throughout his career, Matuê has also exerted a strong influence on strengthening the independent scene and discovering new talents, supporting projects like XTRANHO and actively participating in cultural mobilizations alongside fundamental names in national rap, such as Racionais MC's and Luísa Sonza. His unique sonic aesthetic, marked by strong vocal harmony, continues to shape the landscape of Brazilian trap and inspire new generations of musicians in the urban scene.
