Biography

Maurício Carrilho was born in Rio de Janeiro on April 26, 1957. Heir to a strong family musical tradition, he is the son of musician and flutist Álvaro Carrilho and the nephew of renowned flutist Altamiro Carrilho, which certainly shaped his artistic trajectory from his earliest years.

Throughout his career, he has established himself as a prominent classical guitarist, arranger, music producer, and MPB researcher. His musical sensitivity and refined technique have allowed him to collaborate closely with great icons of Brazilian popular music, such as Chico Buarque, Elizeth Cardoso, Nara Leão, Joyce, Miúcha, Francis Hime, Paulo Moura, and Paulinho da Viola.

In addition to his instrumental and arrangement work, Carrilho has played a fundamental role in preserving and disseminating the country's musical memory through his musicological research. His work remains deeply rooted in the tradition of the Brazilian acoustic guitar and the aesthetics of MPB.
