Biography

Maurílio de Oliveira was born in Blumenau, Santa Catarina, on April 12, 1979, but moved to São Paulo as a child with his family, which had a strong artistic background. The son of a musician who accompanied major names and a singer, Maurílio developed an early interest in music, playing in São Paulo's nightlife scene from the age of eleven and starting to compose at fourteen in partnership with his brother, Magnu Sousá.

In 1996, alongside his brother and other partners, he founded Quinteto em Branco e Preto, a group that left its mark on the history of Brazilian samba and was sponsored by Beth Carvalho, touring nationally and internationally for a decade. The group's importance was recognized by great icons such as Jair Rodrigues, Monarco, Wilson das Neves, Almir Guinéto, Nelson Sargento, Luiz Carlos da Vila, and Nei Lopes.

Following the end of Quinteto em Branco e Preto in 2014, Maurílio participated in the show The Voice Brasil in 2015 and continued his artistic career alongside his brother Magnu Sousá, forming the duo Prettos, in which he works as a singer, songwriter, cavaquinho player, acoustic guitarist, and arranger, in addition to being one of the founders of the traditional Comunidade Samba da Vela.
