Biography

Mauro Alceu Amoroso Lima Senise, known artistically as Mauro Senise, was born in Rio de Janeiro on May 18, 1950. He is a renowned Brazilian saxophonist, flutist, arranger, and music teacher, having begun his professional career in 1972. Throughout his training, he studied classical flute with Odette Ernest Dias and saxophone with Paulo Moura, consolidating a solid technical foundation that led him to collaborate with major icons of Brazilian instrumental music, such as Hermeto Pascoal, Egberto Gismonti, Wagner Tiso, and Luis Eça, in addition to being a member of Grupo Um.

In 1985, alongside Pascoal Meirelles, he founded the acclaimed group Cama de Gato, marking an important phase of his career focused on instrumental jazz and the fusion of Brazilian rhythms. His solo discography began in 1988 with the release of his self-titled album "Mauro Senise", followed by expressive works such as "Jade" (1989) and "Vênus" (2002). At the same time, he built a prolific partnership with pianist and arranger Gilson Peranzzetta, with whom he recorded several albums over decades of collaboration, exploring a sophisticated and intimate repertoire.

His artistic excellence has earned him important international awards and nominations, including the Latin Grammy for Best MPB Album in 2017 for the album "Dos Navegantes", recorded in partnership with Edu Lobo and Romero Lubambo. Throughout his career, Senise has also paid tribute to great masters of national culture in projects dedicated to names like Edu Lobo, Gilberto Gil, Dolores Duran, Sueli Costa, Johnny Alf, and Paulinho da Viola, reaffirming his fundamental role in the preservation and innovation of Brazil's popular and instrumental music.
