Biography

Cláudia Mendes dos Santos, known artistically as MC Cacau, was born in Salvador, Bahia, in 1974. At the age of five, she moved with her family to Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro, where she began her musical journey. At 18, she won a rap contest, standing out as the only female participant. In 1994, she was launched by Furacão 2000, establishing herself as one of the pioneers of Brazilian funk in a predominantly male scene.

MC Cacau is recognized as the first woman to sing funk in Brazil, paving the way for many other female artists. Her career is marked by hits such as "Rap do Baile", "A Dor do Desprezo", "Treme Treme" and "Não Quero Te Perder". She also had a significant relationship with MC Marcinho, with whom she released hits like "Porque Te Amo" (1997) and "Primeiro Você Me Disse" (2003), besides being the inspiring muse for his song "Princesa". Together, they had a son, Márcio André.

With over 30 years of career, MC Cacau remains active in the music scene, celebrating her journey and the memory of MC Marcinho. In 2024, she performed a show in tribute to her ex-husband, also celebrating her 30-year career. Mother of three children and grandmother of three grandchildren, she continues to strengthen the female presence in funk and participate in important events, such as Carnavoz 2025.
