Biography

Cristiano Carlos Martins, better known as MC Careca, was a funk pioneer in the Baixada Santista region, born and raised in the Zona Noroeste of Santos, São Paulo. He began his musical career in the 1990s and quickly stood out as a prominent voice in the São Paulo funk scene.

Alongside his partner MC Pixote, MC Careca gained notoriety with songs that portrayed the reality of the outskirts, addressing themes such as violence, social injustices, and urban conflicts. His work was known for bringing the rawness of life in the communities into his lyrics, which made him a representative figure for many young people in the region. Among his hits, "Vai dar Guerra", "Tá Na Memória", and "Fortes Batalhas" stand out.

MC Careca's career was tragically cut short on April 28, 2012, when he was shot and killed in Santos at the age of 33. His death, which occurred amidst a wave of MC assassinations in the Baixada Santista between 2010 and 2012, shocked the funk community and left behind a legacy of grief and the fight for justice. Artists such as MC Primo, MC Duda do Marapé, and MC Felipe Boladão were also victims of this sad reality.
