Biography

MC Serginho e Lacraia was a prominent carioca funk duo originating from Favela do Jacarezinho, in Rio de Janeiro, which achieved enormous national success in the early 2000s. Formed by Sérgio Braga Manhães, known as MC Serginho, and Marco Aurélio da Silva, known as Lacraia, the partnership gained prominence in 2002 with the hit "Vai Serginho!" and was definitively solidified by the explosion of "Égua Pocotó" in 2003, one of the most played songs on Brazilian radio that year. The duo stood out on the hit parades and in various television programs, making history in funk and becoming a symbol of representation and LGBT pride within the genre.

After years of great visibility, the partnership came to an end in 2011, when both began pursuing solo career projects. Unfortunately, in the same year, Lacraia's journey was cut short by her premature passing at the age of 33, a victim of health complications resulting from pulmonary emphysema. MC Serginho continued to perform and keep the duo's memory alive, receiving emotional tributes at dances and shows across the country, in addition to maintaining strong affection and recognition from the public and the LGBT community.

The duo's legacy remains rooted in Brazilian popular culture, frequently associated with classic genre compilations, such as the Furacão 2000 CDs. Artists like Bonde do Tigrão and figures connected to the funk movement and black music keep alive the festive and irreverent spirit that propelled MC Serginho and Lacraia to the top of the Brazilian music industry.
