Mesquita was a Brazilian instrumentalist, composer, and bandleader, primarily known for his work as a vibraphonist. His musical career began in the early 1950s, and he was active throughout that decade. Mesquita recorded several solo works for RCA Victor, including the baião "Pinguim," which he composed, and "Vibrando no baião." He also released recordings with his ensemble, featuring compositions like the choro "Mesquibrafone," co-written with Maspoli.

Beyond his recordings, Mesquita performed in various clubs and radio stations. He was part of a musical collective that included notable pianists such as Britinho and Fats Elpídio. His discography also includes recordings from 1952 to 1956, featuring pieces like the bolero "Grande ilusão" and the baião "Papagaio branco," both of his own composition, as well as interpretations of other artists' works.
