Biography

Mestre Zé Paulo is a Brazilian composer and singer who began his artistic career in the early 1980s. He was born in Salvador, Bahia, and gained recognition for his unique stage presence, often incorporating elements of circus and theatrical performances into his shows. His music blends samba with other Brazilian rhythms, reflecting the vibrant culture of his homeland.

Throughout his career, Mestre Zé Paulo participated in various bands, carnival groups, and electric trios, with Chacrinha serving as his artistic mentor. He even shared a track, "Fricote da Terezinha," with Chacrinha for a compilation album. His debut solo album, "Raça," was released in the 1980s, but it was his second album that brought him significant success, featuring the Bahian folklore song "Rala o pinto" and his own compositions like "Feijão com arroz" and "Barriga vazia."

His third album, "O amor é lindo – Olodum nº 1," presented a new samba-reggae version of "Andança" and included other notable songs. Mestre Zé Paulo is known for his innovative shows, which have featured elements such as clowns, trapeze artists, and tributes to international pop stars. In 1999, he released his first live album, recorded during tours across Brazil.
