Biography
Mijinha, whose birth name was Bonifácio José de Andrade, but who also adopted the name José Augusto de Andrade, was a renowned Brazilian composer, born in Rio de Janeiro on May 3, 1918.
Known for his skill in composing sambas, Mijinha is the author of classics such as "Sentimentos", which was interpreted by artists like Paulinho da Viola and Gilberto Gil, and "Chega de Padecer", recorded by Velha Guarda da Portela and Cristina Buarque. His work is a testament to the richness of Rio de Janeiro samba.
One of the founders of Velha Guarda da Portela, a group that became intangible heritage of Rio de Janeiro, Mijinha was also the brother of fellow sambistas Aniceto da Portela and Manaceia. His connection to Portela and his family solidified his legacy in Brazilian popular music.
