Biography

The worship ministry Toque no Altar, also known as Ministério Apascentar de Louvor, emerged in January 2002 in Nova Iguaçu, Rio de Janeiro. Founded within the Evangelical Ministry Apascentar church, the group's vision was to have full-time musicians dedicated solely to worship and deep intimacy with God, inspired by the biblical account in 1 Chronicles 25. Initially comprising four members, the ministry grew to include seventeen musicians committed to their calling through prayer, fasting, and a life devoted to their faith.

The group gained significant prominence with their debut album, "Toque no Altar," released in October 2003. This album, considered highly influential in Brazilian contemporary Christian music, featured popular songs like "Aleluia Hosana," "Toque no Altar," and "Faz Chover." The songwriting partnership between Luiz Arcanjo and Davi Sacer was a hallmark of this early period, producing many of the band's most recognized hits. Their music resonated deeply within the Christian community, leading to widespread recognition and commercial success.

Over the years, Toque no Altar released several successful albums and DVDs, including "Deus de Promessas" and "Olha pra Mim." However, a significant shift occurred in late 2006 when several key members, including Luiz Arcanjo and Davi Sacer, departed due to disagreements regarding the establishment of the Toque no Altar Music label. These members went on to form the group Trazendo a Arca. Despite these changes, the ministry has continued its work, evolving through different formations and maintaining its dedication to contemporary Christian music and worship.
