Biography

Edmilson de Amorim Ferreira, widely known as Missinho, was a pivotal figure in the early development of Brazilian axé music. Born in Salvador, Bahia, in 1962, he was the founder and original vocalist of the iconic band Chiclete com Banana. He was instrumental in shaping the band's sound during their formative years, from 1980 to 1986, contributing to their initial success and establishing their unique blend of rhythms that would come to define the genre.

Missinho's creative contributions extended beyond his vocal performances. He was also a talented songwriter, penning hits such as "Lua Menina," "Mistério das Estrelas," "Olhos da Noite," and "Jamaica." These songs became staples of Salvador's carnival scene and remain beloved classics of axé music. Despite the band's growing popularity, Missinho departed in 1986 due to personal reasons, paving the way for Bell Marques to take over as lead vocalist.

Following his departure from Chiclete com Banana, Missinho pursued a solo career, releasing albums like "Neons Dos Guetos." He continued to be involved in music, working as a music producer and occasionally performing. Even after leaving the band, he maintained a connection to his musical roots and expressed no regrets about his decision, emphasizing that he continued to live his life through music. Missinho passed away on May 16, 2024, at the age of 64, leaving behind a significant legacy in Brazilian music.
