Biography

Moacyr Albuquerque was a prominent Brazilian musician and composer born in Salvador, Bahia. Throughout his career, he established himself as one of the most important bassists in MPB, lending his talent to legendary artists such as Caetano Veloso, Chico Buarque, Maria Bethânia, and Gal Costa. He famously participated in the recording of Caetano Veloso's acclaimed 1972 album Transa in London.

As a skilled composer, Albuquerque co-wrote notable hit songs such as Qual é baiana? and Sem grilos alongside Caetano Veloso, both recorded by Gal Costa. His collaborative spirit also led him to work with other Brazilian icons like Gilberto Gil, Toquinho, Vinícius de Moraes, and Martinho da Vila. His musical contributions left a lasting mark on the Brazilian popular music landscape before his passing in October 2000.
