Biography

Moacyr Silva was a prominent Brazilian saxophonist and music producer born in Cataguases around 1940. Throughout his career, he performed with renowned orchestras led by maestros such as Fon Fon and Zacarias, and he also served as the artistic director for Copacabana Discos. Under the pseudonym Bob Fleming—a moniker created by producer Nilo Sérgio—he built a massive discography comprising over thirty studio albums.

His prolific recording output often featured serialized releases, including popular collections like Dançando com Você, Sax Sensacional, and Convite à Música. He collaborated with numerous notable figures in Brazilian music, recording joint projects with artists such as Elizeth Cardoso, Sivuca, and Marisa Gata Mansa. His distinctive saxophone style earned him lasting recognition within the Brazilian instrumental and orchestral scenes.

Silva passed away on August 13, 2002, in Conselheiro Lafaiete. His extensive body of work remains an important contribution to the mid-century landscape of Brazilian popular music and instrumental performance.
