Biography

Mococa & Paraíso is a highly respected and traditional Brazilian sertanejo duo, known for preserving the essence of "música caipira raiz" (root country music) with quality and respect. The duo was formed in 1986, following a chance encounter in downtown São Paulo shortly after Mococa's previous partner, Moraci, tragically passed away in a car accident. Both artists brought a wealth of experience to the partnership, with Mococa (João Leôncio) having already achieved fame with Moraci, and Paraíso (José Plínio Transferetti) being a renowned singer, producer, and composer who had previously partnered with the legendary Tião Carreiro and was married to one of the daughters of the esteemed composer José Fortuna.

Their music often tells stories of simple life and the hard work of rural people, but they also incorporate romantic themes, bridging the gap between traditional sertanejo and more contemporary styles. Their discography includes numerous CDs and DVDs, with one notable DVD recorded at Estância Alto da Serra featuring guest artists such as Sérgio Reis, Bruno e Marrone, and César e Paulinho. They have successfully balanced honoring their roots with creating music that resonates with modern audiences, evident in hits like "Orelhão Azul," "Licor de Amor," "Saco de Ouro," and "O Ipê e o Prisioneiro."

Beyond their musical career, Paraíso has also been active in copyright management, running his own music publishing and record label, Fortuna Musical Edições Ltda. In 2019, the duo released a special album paying homage to their previous partners, Tião Carreiro and Moraci, featuring a selection of their hits and new compositions. Mococa & Paraíso's music remains available on major digital platforms, ensuring their legacy continues to reach new generations of listeners.
