Biography

Moda de Rock is a Brazilian musical project formed in 2007 by the duo of viola caipira players Ricardo Vignini and Zé Helder. The project emerged from their desire as teachers to showcase the potential of the viola caipira to their students, while also revisiting the rock music that formed the soundtrack of their adolescence. Their unique approach involves creating instrumental arrangements of classic rock songs for the viola caipira, blending the "soul of the viola" with the "strength of rock."

Over the years, Moda de Rock has gained significant recognition, performing across Brazil, Mexico, the United States, Canada, and Argentina. Their work has been featured on multiple albums, including "Moda de Rock – Viola Extrema" (2010), "Moda de Rock II" (2016), "Moda de Rock toca Led Zeppelin" (2018), and "Moda de Rock Brasil" (2022), which focuses on Brazilian rock. Their album "Moda de Rock II" received the ProAC award from the São Paulo State Department of Culture. The duo has collaborated with a notable array of Brazilian musicians, including Andreas Kisser, Lúcio Maia, Edgard Scandurra, Robertinho de Recife, Pepeu Gomes, Kiko Loureiro, and Marcos Suzano.

Moda de Rock's innovative fusion of traditional Brazilian folk music with international rock anthems has carved a unique niche in the music scene. Their performances and recordings demonstrate the versatility and power of the viola caipira, proving that the instrument can effectively interpret the complex melodies and driving rhythms of rock music.
