Biography

The Moons are an English indie rock band formed in Northampton in 2008 by singer, guitarist, and songwriter Andy Crofts. The band's sound draws heavily from psychedelia and garage rock, infused with a strong sense of catchy pop melodies. Their music often features layered guitars and tight harmonies, creating a rich and varied collection that has been described as a 21st-century psychedelic space odyssey.

Before forming The Moons, Andy Crofts played in Paul Weller's backing band, and Weller himself has contributed to The Moons' early work, playing piano and guitar on tracks from their debut album, 'Life on Earth' (2010). This debut, released on Acid Jazz Records, achieved commercial success, reaching the top 30 in the UK charts. The band has since released several other albums, including 'Fables of History' (2012) and 'Mindwaves' (2014) on Schnitzel Records, and 'Pocket Melodies' (2020) on Crofts' own label, Colorama Records.

The Moons have toured extensively, both as headliners and supporting acts for bands like Ocean Colour Scene and The Rifles. Their music has evolved over the years, exploring elements of soul music, space rock, and blues rock while maintaining their core indie rock identity. They are known for their introspective folk sound, which has drawn comparisons to artists like Nick Drake, a significant inspiration for the band's name.
