Biography

Motirô is a Brazilian rap group formed in 2003 in the city of São Paulo. The name "Motirô" has Tupi-Guarani origins and means "a gathering of people to harvest or build something together, helping one another," reflecting the concept of collective and collaborative construction that the group seeks to apply to hip hop.

The group was conceived by DJ Hum, known for his partnership with rapper Thaíde, and initially featured rappers C4bal and Lino Krizz. In 2004, they released the single "Senhorita," which achieved great success, receiving nominations for awards such as Hutúz and Prêmio Multishow, in addition to being voted "National Rap Highlight" by DJ Sound magazine in 2005. Their debut album, "Um Passo à Frente: Episódio 1," was released in 2005 and featured guest appearances by artists such as Rogério Flausino and Wilson Sideral. Following C4bal's departure, the group came to be led by DJ Hum and Lino Krizz.

Currently, Motirô has expanded and boasts a lineup of 25 people, including musicians who play bass, drums, brass (saxophone and trumpet), percussion, and keyboards, as well as backing vocals and other singers such as Mara Nascimento, Tio Fresh, and rapper De La Souza. The group stands out for its sound that blends rhythms and experimentalism, maintaining the essence of rap with influences from R&B and soul music.
